Amazon "Goes on the Offensive" Against Counterfeiters

Amazon's ongoing struggle with counterfeiters has been well-publicized, drawing criticism from regulators and legitimate sellers, some of whom, like Nike, have stopped selling on Amazon's marketplace in response. Now, Amazon is assembling a Counterfeit Crimes Unit, a team made up of investigators, data analysts, and former federal prosecutors that will deal proactively with counterfeiters on the site.

According to Amazon, the new Counterfeit Crimes Unit will make it easier for the company to file civil lawsuits, aid brands in their own investigations, and work with law enforcement officials in fighting counterfeiters.
