Amazon May Convert Old JCPenney and Sears Stores into Distribution Hubs

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is in talks with Simon Property Group, the largest mall owner in the country, working toward a deal that would allow the online retailer to convert shuttered JCPenney and Sears stores into distribution centers. Amazon is building an ever more efficient delivery network, and fulfilling and shipping orders from malls, rather than traditional warehouses, could give the online giant the proximity to customers' homes that it needs to make one-day delivery on a large scale possible. 

The talks between Amazon and Simon reflect a growing trend in the retail industry of stores and malls turning into warehouses.
