Amazon Will Soon Open First Fresh Store to the Public

In the coming weeks, the first of Amazon's branded grocery stores, called Amazon Fresh, will open to the public in Los Angeles. The store will open to a few invited customers this week.

Amazon's grocery store chain is designed to fulfill a different purpose from Whole Foods stores, which Amazon also owns. It will sell products at lower price points than Whole Foods, and it will bring together elements of in-store and online shopping. 

There are currently four Amazon Fresh stores, but the one in Los Angeles will be the first to be opened to the public. 

Amazon is aiming to crack open a new segment of the U.S. grocery industry with the launch of its Fresh store, bringing the e-commerce giant into more direct competition with chains like Kroger and Albertsons.
