Kohl's Amazon partnership is nearly two years old, so its success or failure should be evident by now; however, the coronavirus pandemic has blurred the picture. Kohl's was forced to shut its doors at the beginning of the global health crisis, and the resulting hit to in-store sales, combined with reduced demand for apparel, caused Kohl's to end the year 2020 with a $163 million net loss. Still, the retailer's CEO Michelle Gass pointed to a more hopeful number for the year: at least 2 million shoppers came to Kohl's stores to return Amazon orders. But while foot traffic is one thing, sales are quite another.
...it's still not entirely clear just how much Kohl's tie-up with Amazon is boosting actual sales, and Gass didn't clear up that mystery, saying only that the Amazon partnership is "accretive to both sales and profits."
