The election at Amazon's Bessemer, Alabama facility, in which workers voted on whether or not to unionize and allow the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) to represent them, is over. 1,798 Amazon workers voted against unionizing, and 738 voted to unionize. 505 ballots were challenged, but the results were not close enough to make them matter.
The fight at Bessemer isn't over, as RWDSU has vowed to file unfair labor practices charges against Amazon, alleging that the retailer manipulated and intimidated workers to ensure its victory.
But labor's conflict with Amazon extends beyond Bessemer, Alabama.
