Following a stellar holiday season, in which customers filled bigger baskets and took advantage of curbside pickup, Target is saying thank you to employees with another round of bonuses. Hourly employees will receive $500, and those in leadership positions will receive between $1,000 and $2,000. Between the higher starting wage ($15 an hour as of July) and the pandemic bonuses, the retailer has spent $1 billion more on employee pay and benefits in the fiscal year 2020 than it did in 2019. Target is also extending coronavirus-related benefits, including virtual doctor visits and pay for employees who cannot come to work because of illness or quarantine.
This is the fifth time Target has given additional pay to workers during the pandemic.
