The coronavirus pandemic is already changing the holiday shopping season. Walmart has announced that it will hold its holiday sales earlier and for longer, since big doorbuster sales are no longer practicable. The retailer is increasing its inventory of toys and electronics and other products it expects to sell quickly. Walmart is also hiring 20,000 seasonal workers for e-commerce warehouse positions. The goal is to make sure that the products shoppers want are in stock, and that customers receive their online orders quickly.
Walmart has hired more than 500,000 new workers since March, for both in-store and warehouse roles.
