Walmart CEO Speaks Out on Retailer's Role in Tackling Social Issues

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon says there is more work to do when it comes to social issues. In the company's annual Environmental, Social and Governance report, McMillon responded to the criticism that Walmart prospers at the expense of its associates and the planet. He pointed to Walmart's wage raises, education programs, and sustainability initiatives, saying that Sam Walton's mission to help people live better continues to evolve. He said that the pandemic has pushed Walmart to do more and be better every day. And he spoke of the racial unrest in the nation, saying that the time has come for businesses to take a leading role in promoting social change. 

“Followed by the senseless and tragic killing of George Floyd, our nation has questioned where we go from here. Collectively, we’ve agreed: We have work to do,” McMillon said.
