In March, Walmart began closing stores at night to give associates more time to stock shelves and clean thoroughly. Most of its stores had previously stayed open twenty-four hours a day. Now, after a big hiring spree and the implementation of a mask mandate and social distancing protocols, Walmart is extending most stores' hours further into the night. The retailer says this will enable more effective social distancing as customers will have more time to complete their shopping trips. All Walmart stores will continue to open at seven in the morning, with the exception of Tuesdays, when the retailer opens its doors an hour early for seniors.
The Walmart spokesperson said it will continue the same cleaning protocols with its extended hours and will "continue assessing our remaining stores to determine the right time to expand their closing hours."
