Walmart Now Offers Pet Insurance, Pet Sitting Services

Through partnerships with Petplan and Rover, Walmart is expanding its pet care services. Through Petplan, the retailer will offer pet insurance, and through Rover, Walmart will help pet owners find pet sitters and dog walkers. All pet products and services sold by Walmart can now be found on a new landing page on its site, Walmart Pet Care. The goal is to take advantage of a trend that was growing even before the coronavirus pandemic created a "pet boom." As U.S. consumers adopt new pets, they are spending more on them, too, and even retailers who don't have the word "pet" in their name want in on the booming market. 

By offering multiple services, the retailer hopes pet owners will spend more at its stores. For example, customers who get pet insurance through Walmart may later get pet medications filled at its pharmacy.
