Walmart's Open Call was delayed when the coronavirus arrived in the U.S. This year the event will take place in October. The retailer sorted through almost five thousand product pitches (a 44% increase over last year) to narrow them down to eight hundred and fifty. These companies will have the opportunity to pitch their products to buyers in a one-on-one virtual meeting for a chance to take their place on the retailer's shelves.
Open Call is one of the ways Walmart is making strides toward fulfilling a pledge to buy and sell more products made in the United States.
COVID-19 forced Walmart to conduct the annual event virtually and it was pushed back to October from June. Participants this year come from 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Australia and Mozambique.
