Director & Executive Professor, Texas A&M University's Center for Retailing Studies
Scott an accomplished retailing executive with more than 35 years of diverse experience spanning traditional brick & mortar retailing, eCommerce, omnichannel and international retail merchandising and operations.
Today he utilizes his experience to inspire the future of retailing as the Director & Executive Professor of the Center for Retailing Studies at Texas A&M University's Mays Business School. He also operates his own retail consulting firm, Benedict Enterprises, LLC. which works with retailers, software developers and brands of all sizes to solve business challenges in the digital age. His firm is expanding into investing in small retail businesses and retail-related properties and business opportunities.
He spent a large portion of his career at Walmart, and was a member of the team that started Walmart.com in 1997. However he spent the majority of his Walmart career in the Sam’s Club division in a number of merchandising and eCommerce roles. In addition to Walmart, he has held positions at Best Buy, Service Merchandise and Montgomery Ward, and was most recently the Divisional Merchandise Manager for Health, Beauty & Grocery at Groupon in Chicago before joining Texas A&M University.
He attained his BS degree in Media & Communications from Arkansas State University. As a seasoned panelist and speaker, Scott has served on a judging panel for the Walton MBA Case Competition at the University of Arkansas, spoken at the US Chamber of Commerce Small Business Summit, and served as moderator at the Greater Bentonville Chamber of Commerce WalStreet Speaker Series. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Arkansas’ Walton School of Business. Scott currently sits on the advisory boards of the Texas Retailers Association and the Dallas/Fort Worth Retail Executives Association where he also serves as the Vice President of Membership.
