THE KCL STORY, BASICALLY.

When we look back at the past 10 years of telling people about how to shop smarter, the only word that really captures it is krazy.

It all started when best friends Joanie Demer and Heather Wheeler were looking for ways to save money on groceries for their young families — and were blown away when they discovered the world of couponing.

Floored by what they were learning, Joanie and Heather almost immediately started sharing their knowledge with anyone who would listen, blogging as The Krazy Coupon Lady. And lots of people started listening.

More and more people joined us, and before we knew it, a blog became a business, and that business turned into a community of millions.

We’ve made it really simple to save serious money at places like Target, Walgreens, CVS and Walmart — providing easy-to-understand, step-by-step instructions that turn nervous couponers into checkout line champs.

Over the years, we’ve shown up a bunch of places, sharing what we know with Today, Good Morning America, CBS’ The Early Show, CNBC, Yahoo! Finance, The Doctors, Rachael Ray, and The View, among others.

All along, we’ve tried to find new ways to do what’s best for our audience. We branched out beyond our industry-leading coupon reporting — releasing a best-selling book, sharing money-saving lifestyle tips, building a critically acclaimed app with more than 50,000 five-star reviews, and conducting deep original research to uncover savings secrets at top department stores, grocery stores and restaurants.

Through up and down economic times, the rise of apps over paper coupons and stores’ ever-changing couponing policies, we’ve helped smart people live like rich people. Our community is smart, and they’re saving a ton of money through countless money-saving victories (as we see from our crowdsourced “brags” section).

We went from two moms blogging from their home computers to nearly 80 scrappy, relentless, disruptive people working together to help make our users’ lives easier. We’re really proud to have an all-female executive team, our own charitable organization dedicated to helping the local refugee population (using coupons, of course), and a freaking enjoyable office in the Boise, Idaho area.

Couponing is about saving money, sure — but for us, it’s always been about doing something worthwhile with people you like. That’s how Joanie and Heather got started. That’s how they built a company culture. And it’s how The Krazy Coupon Lady community continues to grow.
